Pipe Dream Come True
Once you get past the puffy eyes and the blood vessel that actually burst under my left eye from lack of sleep (shocking, I know), this picture pretty much sums it up. This is it, folks! A real, honest-to-goodness book—that I wrote—in my hands and about to be delivered to the world (well, you guys, at least). So the hard work is over, right? No?
Well.
Promotion. Yeah, that big monstrosity is looming over me like the creature that used to live under the bed, waiting to pounce on me the second I pull the covers down from over my head. Only I’ll probably pass out from exhaustion, so he may give up and leave me be. And then I’ll really be in trouble. I can’t let this slide, can’t let it fall flat without putting in more work on the front end. Don’t get me wrong: I’ve been promoting the heck out of this book since day one, but now is when the real game starts. Social networking is one thing, but I have lists upon lists of contacts and press release possibilities. I have a few promising leads, but in the end, it’s you guys who decide my fate.
The number one thing that can make or break me is reviews. Yes, of course sales are important, but reviews and word of mouth are so vital to success in this business. Anywhere you can post a review, anyone you can mention the book to, is a huge step in the right direction. I can talk about my book until I’m blue in the face, but who cares how much I like my own book? Of course I like it. I wrote it!
After you’ve had a chance to read it, I hope you’ll be able to help me out in this. And if you hate it—as some are bound to do—just know that I have a direct connection to the monster under your bed. Just saying.
Good night and sweet dreams, all! 😛
